Impressions on Take Your Kid to Work Day

Every day, parents all over the U.S. leave their homes for 8 or more hours to earn a living and to provide for their families. Oftentimes, kids have little to no idea about what it means for Mom and Dad to go to work. Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day is a special day where children can finally learn the answer to the question “what does your Mom or Dad do?”

On this day, kids get to see where their parents spend their time during the week, what they do, and who they do it with. They’ll leave with a better understanding of what it means to go to work, parents get to introduce their coworkers to the little one they’ve been hearing all about, and everyone else gets to experience the smiles, laughter, and (sometimes) funny, but curious, questions. What a great opportunity for everyone!

Previously, we asked a few of our employees’ children what they thought their parents did at Viventium. This year, I decided to ask some of our executives why they enjoy Take Our Daughters and Sons to work day. Here are some of their responses.

“Take your kid to work day is an incredible learning experience for children. It feeds their curiosity and imagination as they learn grown-up work experiences by seeing their parents at work.” Eli Kohn – COO

“I enjoy take your kid to work day because I love to see their faces when they meet someone their parent has described or told them about.  I’ve heard some pretty funny descriptions. It also gives us a chance to tell our employees’ children how valuable their parent is to our business.” Karl Halbach – CFO

“On take your kid to work day, our children get a better understanding of where their parent goes every day and what we do. Plus, it allows the rest of us to interact with some of the people most important to our colleagues!” Dan Neuburger – CEO

“For some children, this day stimulates their curiosity and they may even be learning about what they may or may not wish to do later in life. This may inform what they would like to study in school and in some cases how hard they want to study.” Pat Wilkinson – CHRO

Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day truly is a great and memorable day at work, and there is a lot to be gained, so enjoy it!
