As Nurses Month begins, we at Viventium wanted to take some time to place a spotlight on the champions of health care: the ones who bring compassion and care directly into the lives of those they serve. Whether they’re working in home health or a skilled nursing facility or retirement community, nurses make a real difference in the lives of their patients, embodying the spirit of caring for others.
As Maya Angelou said, “As a nurse, we have the opportunity to heal the mind, soul, heart, and body of our patients, their families, and ourselves. They may forget your name, but they will never forget how you made them feel.”
We asked a few Viventium employees about their recent experiences, and here is what they had to say:
“My son was diagnosed with a chronic illness when he was 10 years old. He spent a lot of time in the hospital, and the nurses were always instrumental in his recovery, both physical and mental. It was this recognition that the nursing staff played such a pivotal role in his well-being that inspired him to become the pediatric nurse he is today, and I couldn’t be prouder!”
– Cheryl Rich, Director, PMO
“My Father suffered a stroke last summer and was moved to a rehabilitation facility. There was one nurse that stood out above the rest, Fatima, we will never forget her name. My father is a large man, and she knew he would benefit from extra potatoes (which he loved) and extra blankets because he was so tall. It is the little things in life that make a difference. These nurses are with us when we feel our worst. Whenever we drive past the facility now, my father will say, ‘I would like to go visit Fatima.’ I never met a kinder person who was great at her job in my life.”
– Jennifer Rudolph, Executive Assistant
“In March 2018, my father went to live in a skilled nursing facility. It was such a difficult time for our family and, of course, for my father. Our family worried that when we couldn't be there to visit with him, that he would be lonely and would feel abandoned. However, because the nursing staff were so kind to him and never made him feel ‘less than human,’ he quickly developed such wonderful relationships with them. In fact, when my father was in the hospital a few weeks ago, he told me he was looking forward to going back to the nursing facility because he missed the nurses who show so much care for him. Sadly, the nurses in the facility get to spend more time with my father than my family is able to, so knowing that they have made my dad so comfortable has given my family such peace of mind. We are thankful for them!”
– Tamara Crutchfield, Human Resources Businesses Partner
“During one of the most frightening and uncertain times of my life, when my mother was in critical condition, the nurses who cared for her were an unwavering source of comfort and support. In the midst of my fear and confusion, they went above and beyond to ensure that I was well-informed about my mother's condition, patiently translating complex medical jargon into terms I could understand. Their remarkable knowledge and skill in treating patients were matched only by their compassion and dedication to providing both physical and emotional care. I will be forever grateful for the kindness and expertise of these incredible nurses, who helped me navigate an incredibly difficult time with grace and understanding.”
– Ashley Gehrig, Director, Growth Marketing
“My mother was diagnosed with stage 4 ovarian cancer when I was in my early twenties, and nurses played a very important role in her care and in her ultimate recovery from what many thought was a death sentence. My mother went on to live for decades longer than her diagnosis indicated, and I attribute that in part to the nurses who cared for her, sometimes around the clock. From the administering of medical care for a loved one or simply offering kind and hopeful words in the face of daunting odds, all of those things have a cumulative but sometimes unquantifiable healing effect that should not be underestimated. These things offered hope and healing, not just for those being cared for but for people like me who were trying to stay strong and support our loved ones. I will be eternally grateful for the saints who willingly wake up every morning to care for those in which they come in contact.”
– Victor Williams, Chief Information Officer
“My mom has been a nurse my entire life. She showed me from a very early age what it looks like to provide care to people when they are in their most vulnerable state. Her compassion was one of the reasons that I pursued a career in the clinical setting myself. Before my time here with Viventium, I had the pleasure and privilege to work alongside hundreds of nurses (over the better part of a decade, including the pandemic) in rehabilitation settings throughout the southeast. I witnessed nurses deliver care to not only patients but also their families and prove without a shadow of a doubt that they are the very backbone of our health care. The tireless dedication, compassion, and bravery nurses carry into every patient room they walk into is something I will always deeply appreciate and never forget.”

At Viventium, we recognize the unique challenges that nurses face every day. The fact of the matter is that it’s a hard job that takes a special sort of person to handle. With responsibilities and pressure that would make most crumble, nurses step up to the plate ready to conquer anything that comes in their way with a smile on their face. We are honored to say that we serve those who serve others with tireless dedication each day.
