HR, payroll, and finance leaders at home care, home health, hospice, pediatric home care, skilled nursing, assisted living, and ABA therapy organizations need to determine when onboarding/orientation/training time is legally compensable and how to calculate pay and overtime when onboarding happens before day one, remotely, or outside normal shifts. The problem is turning ambiguous onboarding activities (paperwork, videos, shadowing, multi-day training) into consistent, auditable payroll rules that reduce wage-and-hour risk.
